A Weekend in Banoštor: Two Days Among the Vineyards of Fruška Gora
A plan for two slow days: tastings, Beočin Monastery, a walk by the Danube and sunset from the vineyard.

Some places you visit to “see things”. Others you visit to finally stop. Banoštor is the second kind. A village on the northern slopes of Fruška Gora, above the Danube, only about thirty kilometres from Novi Sad — yet it feels much further away.
Here is how we, as your hosts, would spend two days here.
Saturday: wine, a monastery and the Danube
Morning — coffee on the terrace
Don't rush. Your first morning at Vinea Montis should begin on the terrace, with coffee and a view of the vines. Once the sun climbs over the vineyard, take a slow walk around the estate.
Late morning — Beočin Monastery
Beočin Monastery is a short drive from Banoštor. Set among the green slopes of Fruška Gora, it is known for its miraculous icon of the Mother of God. The calm you feel there is the perfect start to the day.
Afternoon — a tasting in Banoštor
Banoštor is a wine village, and you feel it at every step. Family wineries such as Šijački and the Stojković cellar welcome guests by appointment. Ask about sedusa, an indigenous Fruška Gora grape, and be sure to try bermet.
The best wine is the one you drink where it was made, with the people who made it.
Evening — sunset
Be back in the vineyard before sunset. From the estate the view stretches across the vines to the Danube — the moment people come back for.
Sunday: nature at your own pace
Give the second day to Fruška Gora. Pick one of the national park trails, visit another of the Fruška Gora monasteries — Hopovo or Jazak — or, if it rains, unwind at the wellness centres in Vrdnik.
If you fancy a city, Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad are close. But honestly? Most of our guests spend Sunday right here — on the terrace, with a book and a glass of wine.
Travel tips
- Book tastings ahead — family wineries are not always open without an appointment.
- Bring comfortable shoes for walks through vineyards and forest.
- Buy wine directly from the producer — the best souvenir from Banoštor.
